March 2010

March's 2010 weather for Seattle brought above normal temperatures, sunshine, clouds, and rain after a very warm, partly cloudy, and rainy February. There were sixteen days in March with partly cloudy sky conditions, one day with sunny sky conditions, and fourteen days with cloudy sky conditions.

Precipitation for the month was near normal at 3.76 inches compared to the normal 3.75 inches. There were twenty-three days in March that had precipitation --- fifteen days with measurable precipitation and eight days with a trace of precipitation. The maximum 24-hour precipitation total was 0.92 inches on March 29 breaking the previous record of 0.70 inches set in 1963. March 25 set a twenty-four hour precipitation total when 0.62 inches of precipitation fell breaking the previous record of 0.51 inches set in 1968. Precipitation for the year was running above normal at 13.45 inches compared to the normal 13.06 inches.

Temperatures for the month averaged 0.8 degrees above normal --- the mean average temperature was 47.0 degrees compared to the normal 46.2 degrees. The average daily high was 1.3 degrees above normal at 54.5 degrees compared to the normal 53.2 degrees. There were five days in March that reached a high temperature of 60 degrees or above and two days that reached a low temperature of 32 degrees or below. The warmest day was March 24 when the temperature reached a high of 68 degrees breaking the previous record of 66 degrees set in 1960; the coolest day was March 9 when the temperature reached a low of 28 degrees tying the record set in 1956.

The daily average wind speed for the month was 8.0 mph. The maximum wind peak gust was 39 mph from the south on March 29.
